Upscale Bar Food and Live Music at Gatsby’s

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Our latest TasteCasting adventure in South Florida was to Gatsby’s in Boca Raton. One of three locations in Florida, Gatsby’s brings patrons gourmet bar fare and live music in a comfortable setting. Set in a strip mall just off of Military Trail, Gatsby’s has been a staple in Boca Raton for quite some time, and with new owners in the Boca Raton location, there’s some great positive energy inside.

DSCN1526Once you step inside, we were immediately drawn to the lively bar scene. The chairs were filled with co-workers gathering after work, lively sports fans and close friends meeting to catch up on the past week. You could easily spend your entire night at the bar, but then you would be missing out, as Gatsby’s offers a room for private functions, pool tables in the back and live music on the weekends.

We had our event on a Friday night. We met in the private back room. This back space is perfect for any private function. Lots of space, pool tables, a private bar, friendly service – what more could you ask for? After enjoying a few cocktails (they have a great martini list), we made our way into the main room so we could hear the live music. On this particular evening, the band The Edge was playing. Before the music though, a little tasting was in order.

The menu at Gatsby’s offers more than your typical bar fare. Sure you can find your burgers, chicken wings, pizzas and fried calamari, but it’s that and so much more. One thing to note is that their food is fresh and it is made from scratch, a welcome addition to any bar menu. Plates of their signature dishes lined our table – flat bread, steamed pork dumplings and lamb chops served with a sundried cherry-mango chutney came out and were eaten right up. And since we had to get a better feel for their menu, we did taste some of their calamari, their grilled tenderloin sliders and the Southwestern Chicken Wrap also, the Chicken Wrap being a group favorite.

While the food filled our bellies up, it was the relaxed feel of Gatsby’s and the addition of live music that really made our night. The Edge is a Boca favorite and they play at Gatsby’s on a regular basis. They captured the feel of the audience, and made us jump on the dance floor.   If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere with a neighborhood feel, live music or even a place for late night eats, Gatsby’s might be just what you are looking for.

They offer nightly specials (each location is different though).

In Boca, Mondays are Martini Nights – $5 Martinis. Tuesdays are 2 for Tuesdays. Wednesdays are Ladies Night. On Thursdays it is Beat the Clock Night. Fridays it is the Ultimat Happy Hour. On Fridays and Saturdays there is live music and on Sundays, it is In the Biz night.

Gatsby’s is located at 5970 SW 18th Street in Boca Raton. (561) 393-3900 There are also locations in Davie and Kendall.

Had a great time that night! Great music, great food and atmosphere. The room where we were with the pool tables and bar area would be perfect for a party. I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
