The Indianapolis Tastecasting team made another stop this past week to try out a new crust at Donatos near the IUPUI campus. Tom Santor, the director of brand marketing and public relations, greeted the team and introduced them to the management at the local store. Everyone was very hospitable, and generously fed the crew while answering all of our questions about the popular Midwest pizzeria.
Donatos has introduced a new hand tossed crust that they wanted to share with the Indianapolis team. The crust, which has been developed over the past three years, creates an entirely new pizza. There are several new flavors to enhance the taste of the new crust, including whole milk mozzarella cheese, a new zesty pepperoni, and a sweeter Italian tomato sauce. The team tasted the new Zesty Pepperoni, Serious Cheese, Vegy, the Works, Chicken Spinach Mozzarella, and Fresh Mozzarella Trio pizzas all with the new Hand Tossed crust, along with the traditional Edge to Edge Pepperoni and the Works.
The group was able to conduct an ‘experiment’ by comparing the new hand tossed crust to a comparable pizza with traditional crust. You can definitely taste the difference in crust, sauce and cheese. For those families who are torn in the thin/thick crust dilemma, the hand tossed crust offers a new alternative. As Tom said, “we’re bringing the family back together.”
Even though everyone was full beyond belief, we couldn’t leave without dessert! The Cinnamon Twists were brought out hot and quickly eaten. And lastly, the Apple and Cinnamon Timpanos, a sweet pizza crust with cinnamon, sugar, and apples, were the icing on the cake.
Overall, the Indy team had a successful night at Donatos, and were happy to share their great experience.

I’ve been eating leftovers from this for lunch for a few days. Each time I’m reminded how much I enjoyed that hand-tossed crust and the delicious sauce. Try it out next time you’re deciding on where to order from.
I love Donatos Pizza. It is a great treat for my wife and I every time we buy it. After reading Katie’s post, I am very excited to try their new crust. I had no idea it took 3 years to develop a crust. Crazy! We actually just recently enjoyed a Donatos pizza here in Indy this past weekend. I love how I can order online and have it ready and waiting for me when I drive by the store. Does Donatos have an iPhone app yet? That would be great and convenient!
Great work Indy team, and nice write-up Katie. You have single handedly convinced me to eat more pizza from Donatos! I think I’ll join the Indy Tast Cast team as well!
