Tantalizing Columbus Ohio’s Tastebuds
Tucked away in the corner of the Polaris Neighbor Center at 2119 Polaris Parkway, Columbus, Ohio you will find The Suisse Shop European Bakery. This award winning, family owned bakery has been tantalizing the tastebuds of central Ohio for more than 25 years. The current owners purchased the bakery in 1983 and moved it to its current location.
Award Winning Cupcakes
Darlene Jones, The proud and passionate owner (@SuisseShop on Twitter) invited the CbusTaster’s TasteCasting team to their establishment to experience their award winning selection of custom cupcakes. The shown below were a HUGE hit at the tasting. Nice touch Darlene!
Lessons Learned
Not only were we treated to dozens of tasty treats Herb Jones, Darlene’s Husband gave us the grand tour of the pastry cases and described in great detail the care, quality and importance of using the freshest ingredients in everything they create. We also learned to have the best tasting experience, the butter cream frosting should be allowed to warm to room temperature for a few hours before they are served. He was right. The butter cream frosty was amazing.
Edible Artistry
In addition to tasting heavenly, Elizabeth Jones, General Manager for the bakery is also one of the many artisans and pastry chefs that create the pastry perfection customers love. I was amazed to see three dimensional cupcakes that looked like animals with no detail spared. There were owls, dogs, flowers, and the twitter bird and fail whale.
Loved By Customers
Darlene proudly shared the collection of thank you and appreciation cards, many hand made and hand written all with glowing reviews of the bakeries creations. These hang on a bulletin board in the office for the entire team to see. Darlene and Herb were both quick to recognize the entire team during the tasting, explaining, that customer service is a key differentiator and essential to their continued success.

Watching your weight? Not when you visit The Suisse Shop Bakery. Scrumptous European cakes, tortes and cupcakes await. The “Waldorf Red” is made from the original recipe used at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. Taste a little bit of New York in Columbus, Ohio.
Darlene, Herb & Elizabeth are the real deal.

My story! My daughter decided to get married with only a month and a half to plan the wedding. The wedding was in Akron Ohio. None of the bakerys were even in the same ballpark as the Suisse Shop in the Akron area. Darlene agreed to make a weddding cake for 300 people and found someone to deliver the cake on January 3rd 2009. Darlene and her husband made sure the cake was delivered properly and on time. I have been ordering the Suisse Shop’s cake for 6 or more years including birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers and just for a special treat for my family, employees, and friends.
The Suisse Shop has always delivered and has never let me down. Darlene and her staff Rock!
This was one tasty event! I took home the chocolate owl cupcake and a twitter bird cupcake. I loved everything I tried at the Suisse Shop! The frosting on all of the cupcakes was absolutely incredible! So much better than those store bakery pastries. Thanks to everyone at the Suisse Shop for giving us such a wonderful treat!
