Let’s Talk Wings!

I was driving on my way to the second Tastecasting to be held in Pittsburgh. I was running late because of all the construction on the road with my phone blowing up from Tastcasting friends wondering if I was going to make it.  The only thing I sent back was, “SAVE ME SOME WINGS”!

Castaways Outside Inn

Castaways Outside Inn

Located on route 50 in downtown Bridgeville PA has a great thing going with fun appetizers - always fresh and made to order.

There is just so much fun in the air the moment you walk through the door at Castaways Outside Inn.  Cindy Ransil the owner of Castaways with her huge smile greets just about everyone coming in.  If Cindy didn’t greet you she is walking the area and will come to say hello before long.  Chef Justin Adams came to our table and explained what we where having and let us in on some of the secret ingredients that he uses to create some of the dishes. The staff of Castaway all have fun. It’s written all over there faces.

Owner Cindy Ransil & Chef Justin Adams

We all tried to arrive at 7pm to Castaways but as I said I was running late and after my ”save me some wings” text, I recieved a return text saying to meet them on the porch.  What a perfect night to site in the covered porch enjoying great food and Tweeting the night away about what we where having.  I walked in and right in front of me is a spread of appetizers that had my mouth watering at first sight.  They had put out there FAMOUS WINGS but along with them and all the sauces to go with the wings there was a unbelievable selection of other favorites from there great menu.  They had put out Fried green beans with Cusabi Sauce (cucumber Wasabi),  Baby Back Ribs topped with caramelized onions (a specialty of the chefs), BBQ pulled pork w/ soft buns and a creamy potato salad (I don’t think any of us at the table could say enough about the potato salad it was so good).

All of these items are a must have. You just can’t go wrong.  The RIBS – The RIBS – the RIBS is all I can say after the first round of tasting.  With Chef Justin coming to the table and explaining all the love that goes into the creation of these melt in your mouth delights – I was at a loss of words for how good they are. All I will write is, “Run don’t Walk to have them”.

Batter Fried Green Beans!!!!!!!

Yum!  Sitting at the table stuffed to beyond full and we kept getting up to get another handful of beans.  Dipped in the light green Cusabi sauce they are so addicting.  One after the other you just keep putting in your mouth knowing your going to hurt in the morning from not stopping and it isn’t from the great beer selection that you have also been trying.

Melange

The word, Melange,  means mixture in French. From beginning to end of our experience the restaurant stood up to its name.  Offering top quality foods from around the world, Chef Noxon and his culinary team do take you on a tour of  epicurean delights.

In The Heart Of The Cultural District

If you are looking  for dinner before a show, or dessert after, Melange Bistrobar is the perfect fit!  A person gets lost in the atmosphere of the restaurant when looking at the surrounding  photographs from all interests of  life,  and light wood highlighting the warm colors on the wall  in the dining room.   Every seat has a great view of the incredable photography from all around the world setting the theme of the restaurant.

Melange BistroBar TasteCasting From First To The Last Taste

The first tasting brought to our table was from the new late night menu, fresh beet chips with fruit salsa. The beet chips are so light with just a hint of salt and sugar to enhance the flavor eaten alone they are light and full of flavor.   With the fruit salsa – a mixture of fresh melons, mango, cilantro and a touch of vinegar – they transform into a great appetizer; refreshing and clean.  Crab Cakes stuffed with Hot Smoked Salmon was the next delight. From the first to the last bite, the  remoulade sauce and balsamic glaze enhanced the flavor of the crabcakes, which melted in your mouth.   This is a “must have” when coming to the restaurant! crab-cakes Our sampler plates for the entrees were a joy to the eye as well as mouthwatering to the taste.  We sampled Breast of Duck with Blueberry Glaze, Moroccan Spiced Lamb with Curried Cous Cous, Chicken Marsala over Parmesan Potatoes and Shrimp Scampi on a bed of rice pilaf.  There is something on the menu for all pallets. The dessert selections on the menu are all made in house.  We had a taste of the Tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert done in great fashion!  The delicate lady fingers are dipped in espresso with a hint  of Marsala wine and finished with shaved chocolate…….  A perfect finish to any meal!
